caso-morphine in cow breast milk keeps the calf on the teet, so it grows from a little mammal into a BIG mammal.

Caso-morphine is more concentrated in cheese. Chemically addictive, it's a drug.

I understand that some like to refer to themselves as vegan and follow this absolute. What if we just focused on following a plant-based diet, sans the one word label. It doesn't have to be all-or-nothing, if you have a 'slip' you are still following a plant-based diet. I have no desire to consume liquid meat with hormones (aka cow breast milk) or meat, but this angle can be less moralistic or preaching and more welcoming to others, who are interested in shifting from Standard American Diet to a mostly plant-based lifestyle.

Splendid books to read about nutrition following a
plant-based diet:

I feel your cheese pain, too--I could much more easily give up every meat there is, than cheese! H

While I am not entirely vegan, I do not eat any dairy. I think it takes some work to identify what products work within your diet, but once you know what's good and what's laced with casein, I myself found it really easy to omit dairy from my diet.

Also, I don't miss cheese. I must be the only one, or maybe I've just perfected my vegan mac & "cheeze" :) Nutritional yeast is the best.

It’s easy to be a “junk-food” vegan, after all.

I've actually found it frustrating how *difficult* it is to be a junk food vegan. Why must they put milk in Funyuns?

I can't speak for other vegans. I do sometimes miss really good cheese. I never miss meat, because all I have to think about is my teeth tearing through the flesh of another creature's body, and I imagine the creature's face -- and I'm done. I feel instant revulsion.

But when I see a really good Dutch Gouda on display in a store, I get a little weak-kneed, I do confess.

You know,I reread this and now I have another point. Whether veganism is about social justice or not, that doesn't really address the issue of being tempted to eat it. For temptation it doesn't matter what the good reason NOT to do it is....it's still a temptation. You did say that you're only tempted when you don't manage your diet properly but I can't imagine that's a universal truth.
