Instead of a regular Friday Random Ten, here are my ten favorite traditional carols, — in order of fondness — with Youtube videos. Sound quality varies.
1. O, du Fröhliche
2. Angels We Have Heard on High
3. The Holly and the Ivy
4. God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen
5. Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming
6. O Come, Emmanuel
7. For Unto us a Child is Born
8. Joy to the World
9. Masters in this Hall
10. In the Bleak Midwinter

It’s all traditional stuff innit? Why don’t you throw in at least one, ‘Rudolph’ for the little one’s sake?
Well if you want to make a few changes there’s always:

Not fond of most modern Christmas songs. And I don’t like most of the modern stuff, and didn’t much when I was a kid. I was taken to a messiah sing-along when I was four or five and absolutely hooked.
I am counting the minutes till HRCS says, “Daddy, my favorite Christmas song is, ‘Jingle Bells’……..by the Marx Brothers”.
No “Cantique Noel?” (O Holy Night?)
For shame.
Thought I might share this alternative with you, though it doesn’t have a video. Verse 3 anyone?

It’s not necessarily a Christmas song, but I do love “Riu, Riu Chiu” at the holidays. And “The Holly and the Ivy” is one of my favorites. I also like Greensleeves, but only if that one note is played minor (the rise in “thi-is who,” among other places, and Lord, is my music theory taking self disappointed that that is the best way I can think to explain that). When it’s played as a major I can’t deal with it
Great post! Thanks for all the good info you have posted here. I have enjoyed my stay.
