Summer

For the first time in seventeen years, I’m not teaching summer school. From 1994-2009, each summer found me in the classroom, lecturing away; this year, I’m taking a break. We’re going to be doing some traveling, and I’m going to spend some good time with my wife, daughter, and extended family.

I’m also heavily involved with a writing project about which I can’t yet say much publicly, but which will keep me very busy this summer.

Posting will be quite light until the start of the fall semester on August 30. An occasional new post will appear, as will some reprints. I will do my best (when I have internet access) to moderate comment threads.

As always, I’m so grateful for my readers. For six and a half years, this blog has brought me a great deal of joy. I’m thankful for all the comments and emails I’ve received over the years; you’ve made me a better writer and a better man by relentlessly challenging me to reflect and reevaluate. I’ve adored blogging, and intend to continue. But the fresh updates will be infrequent until the end of August.

  1. I hope you have been watching the world cup. What happened to England? No cohesion!!!

  2. Hi Hugo! I have to tell you that at the advanced age of 53, I have just purchased a computer for the first time.(Better late than never, huh?) I knew absolutely nothing about them, but am proud to say that I am learning and am self taught (pretty much) and it’s been a real trip. (Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?) I love learning new things and still crave knowledge.I’m reading peoples blogs (love that computer lingo). I like finding out what people think, believe and are doing. I’ve always been a country girl who’s hardly been off the farm and I’m discovering what a big world it is out there and so many interestng people. Anyway, I happened upon your writings and I have read everything you have written and I have to tell you that I don’t agree with hardly anything you have written. But we should all be able to think for ourselves, should we not? I do try to keep an open mind. But none the less, I do find your writings very interesting and it just serves to remind me of what a great country we live in where we are free to express ourselves and I am eternally grateful for all the people who paid the ultimate price so that we can enjoy all the freedoms that we do. God bless America! And God bless you and yours, Hugo. Keep writen’ and I’ll keep readin’.

  3. I hope you enjoy your summer and your well-deserved time off!

But, while you’re on hiatus, what ever will I read this summer! Could you give some feminist blog recommendations? I saw your blogroll, but it’s rather lengthy and some of them haven’t been updated in a while. Any blogs that you could recommend?
